Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we draw close to ISTEP and the end of the 3rd quarter, please keep an eye on these email updates for important dates and information. There are many due dates of important projects and assignments coming up. The end of this quarter is the Friday before Spring Break, March 21. Until then, things will be busy in PBL!
6th Grade Math: Students will continue working on equations vs. expressions and the mathematical properties. There will not be a quiz until next week. They will need to continue working on Digits Topic 3 on equations.
HW: Complete 60 minutes of IXL
Advanced Math: Students will continue working on surface area and volume. They will need to keep working on Digits Topic 13. There will be a quiz at the end of the week over this information.
HW: Complete 60 minutes of IXL
Language Arts: Students will be finishing the final touches on their Informational/Descriptive Ecosystems essay this week. Today, students will be taking part in Peer Editing, and then they will have an opportunity to make any final changes to their essay as needed. Final drafts will be submitted at the beginning of Language Arts on Tuesday. Students will also begin learning about and writing complex sentences. It blows their minds to know that you can actually start sentences with "Because!" The 3rd Quarter Writing Prompt will be completed on Thursday, February 27.
Additionally, students have about four weeks left to complete their Riverside Reads for this quarter. Please be sure to encourage students to get their reading and Tic-Tac-Toe boards completed!
HW: Complete two Achieve 3000 articles and read 30 minutes each night
PBL Work Time: Today in PBL, students will play a review game using their notes on ecosystems to prepare for the Common Assessment tomorrow. The Ecosystems Common Assessment will be given on Tuesday, February 25. Students will need to study for this test! The rest of the week will be devoted to starting student blogs for the remainder of this project. This project is a bit different than others as it will not end in a final group presentation. Each group will be creating and maintaining a blog about an ecosystem of their choice. The actual task can be viewed HERE. More information on this can be found in the attached parent letter. The 6th graders will learn about blogs on Thursday, and then actually create the blogs on Friday. The blogging will be done both as a group, and as individuals. More specifics and information on this will come as the project progresses.
