Dear Parents and Guardians,
These next few weeks of school are going to be busy and very important. Leading up to ISTEP, we've been discussing with the students ways to challenge themselves, and we've asked them to "step it up" in reference to their attention and focus on work. Please help us keep your students on track at home by checking in with them about homework, Achieve, and reading each night. Your help and support is greatly appreciated!
As for this week of school, take a look at what your students will be working on...
6th Grade Math: Students will be finishing up Expressions and beginning Equations in Digits. No quiz is scheduled at this time.
HW: 60 minutes of IXL
Advanced Math: Students will be working on Surface Area and Volume of Right Prisms and Pyramids. No quiz is scheduled at this time.

Language Arts: This week students will begin the process of writing an informational/descriptive essay about a deteriorating ecosystem or specific organism of their choice. The actual essay prompt can be found HERE. Students will be looking at examples and start brainstorming today. Tomorrow students will have time to conduct a small amount of research using Achieve 3000 articles and the Internet. Wednesday and Thursday students will have time to write their rough drafts. There will be a mandatory workshop on how to cite information in their writing, and there will be optional workshops on introductions and conclusions, as well as creating bibliographies. Friday students will take part in Peer Editing. The final draft of this essay will be due on Tuesday, February 25 when they come to Language Arts.
HW: Complete two Achieve 3000 articles, read 30 minutes each night, work on Ecosystems Essay if needed
PBL Work Time: Students will continue learning about ecosystems this week using DiscoveryEd resources. Today and tomorrow students will need to complete the second page of their notes, focusing on "Relationships Among Organisms." This section of notes will be due on Wednesday when they come to PBL time. Wednesday will be spent doing an activity about mutualism, commensalism, and parasitism of organisms. Thursday and Friday, students will have time to complete their last page of notes and information about "Habitats and Niches." There will be a review day next Monday, and then students will take a Common Assessment over all ecosystem information on Tuesday, February 25.

Other Important Dates and Information: *3rd Quarter Writing Prompt will be completed on Thursday, February 27*Group Pictures have been rescheduled for Friday, February 28 *ISTEP Kick-Off Assembly will be held on Thursday, March 6*6th Grade Relay for Life Opening Ceremonies will be held on Friday, March 7 (More info on this to come later!) *ISTEP Testing will begin on March 10
