Dear Parents and Guardians,
First of all, we'd like to thank all of you and your students who were present at the Open House on Sunday. We had many compliments from community members on student work and the tours they gave.
It was really nice to see so many families represented.
We are all excited for this upcoming holiday and for this short week! Even though there are only three days of school this week, we still have a busy schedule.
One important note: Students may NOT bring their computers home this week. Computers will stay at school the entire week.
6th Grade Math: Students will continue working on ratios using Digits. There will be a Common Assessment over ratios on Wednesday. If students are absent, they will be able to make up the assessment when they return from break.
HW: Study for the Common Assessment! No IXL due to the short week!
7th Grade Math: Students will be finishing their work with percentages on Digits.
HW: No IXL due to the short week!
Language Arts: Students will be finishing discussions and wrap-up activities with The Invention of Hugo Cabret. They will be using the book to learn about cause and effect relationships.
Students will also be working on two ASSIGNED Achieve 3000 articles. Time to complete these articles will be split between Language Arts and PBL work time. The articles deal with inventions and how real-world inventions (past and present) come to be. This ties in nicely with our PBL project. Both of these articles will be due at the end of the week!
HW: Read 30 minutes each night for Riverside Reads!
PBL Work Time: The students will be taking part in an invention/simple machines workshop this week. This will help as the students continue brainstorming and coming up with specific plans for the invention they would like to create. By the end of the week, students need to have 3 invention ideas, drawings, and an explanation of how the invention will use simple machines in the invention.
Students will also have time to work on their Achieve 3000 articles for the week.
HW: Be sure Achieve 3000 articles are finished and have at least 3 clearly explained invention ideas by Wednesday.
Other Important Details and Information:*Students serving detention for missing Achieve 3000 work will be here on TUESDAY, rather than Wednesday, this week. *D.A.R.E. Graduation will be held on December 6 at 1:45pm. You are welcome to attend!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break and enjoy the holiday with family and friends. We are truly thankful for your efforts at home and for your students taking on this new challenge with us. Thanks again for all that you do!
Have a great week,
6th Grade PBL Facilitators
