Dear Parents and Guardians,
Here's to hoping we have a full week of school! Take a look below to see what we're up to this week.
6th Grade Math: Students will be working on Topic 1 - Expressions in Digits. There will most likely not be a quiz due to the pushed back work from last week.
HW: 60 minutes IXL
Advanced Math: Students will be working on Topic 8 - Equations in Digits. There will not be a quiz this week.
HW: 60 minutes of IXL
Language Arts: Today, students will take their Language Arts Acuity test that we missed last week. Later this week, students will continue reading nonfiction articles focused on various ecosystems of the world and how they are changing. (These are Achieve 3000 articles and can easily be used for their Achieve requirement this week!) We'll work on written responses that include information from multiple sources and how to include specific quotes from the articles. Students will also be learning about and working on compound sentences.
HW: Complete Achieve 3000 and read 30 minutes each night
PBL Work Time: This week students will be creating their group contracts for their new project groups, and they will start using resources from DiscoveryEd (online/interactive science text book) to begin learning about ecosystems. Students will be taking notes in Google Docs and there will be many opportunities for workshops on the content. This will prepare the students for Benchmark #1, a Common Assessment. We plan for this Common Assessment to take place in about 2-3 weeks.
Today, students who did not pass their Social Studies Geography Common Assessment with an 80% or higher, we will do a review workshop and then they will retake the test.
Other Important Dates and Information:
*Math Acuity Test, February 11, 2014
*3rd Quarter Writing Prompt, February 27, 2014
Have a great (full, fingers crossed!) week!
