Hello Parents and Guardians,
We hope you all had a relaxing Thanksgiving Break! It's hard to believe it's December already; there are only three weeks left in this quarter. The final few weeks will be busy and we have many events taking place. Please be sure to read through all of the informational papers in Red Folders this week.
We are still looking for empty and cleaned two-liter pop bottles. If you have them at home, please send them to school with your student, so we can use them for our new project!
Here's a look at what's going on at school this week...
6th Grade Math: Students will be reviewing dividing fractions. There will be a test over this topic on TUESDAY. Later in the week, students will begin Topic 7 covering fluency with decimals. There will be new vocabulary for this topic as well.
HW: Complete 60 minutes of IXL, Study for test, Work on Digits lessons in Topic 7
Advanced Math: Students will finish Topic 5, multiplying and dividing rational numbers. There will be a test on Thursday orFriday over this information.
HW: Complete 60 minutes of IXL, Study for test, Finish lessons in Topic 5
Language Arts: This week, students will begin learning about inferences and how to analyze literature by making inferences as they read. We will do a few practice activities to review inference making at the beginning of the week. Later in the week, we'll begin reading the novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret. This book will tie in nicely with our new PBL project starting this week. If you'd like more information about this book, check out the Hugo Cabret website.
HW: Read 30 minutes each night, Complete two Achieve 3000 articles at 75% or higher (This week's assigned article: "Real-Life Robots")
PBL Work Time: We will begin our new project focusing on potential and kinetic energy, along with the scientific method and variables in experiments. This project is titled "Engineering Energy" with the driving question: What makes things go? Today (Monday), students will participate in a two-part entry event. Students will complete their list of Knows/Need to Knows on Tuesday, and complete their group contracts on Wednesday. Starting on Thursday, students will begin using DiscoveryEd to take notes on energy. These notes will be due next Monday. You can take a look at the project calendar here! I've also attached the project rubric as well.
NOTE: Final grades for the Ancient Civilizations project will be posted by tomorrow!
