Happy September Parents and Guardians!
We hope you all had a relaxing and fun-filled Blueberry/Labor Day weekend! Even though it's a short week, we will be pretty busy at school this week. Because of this, please encourage your student to complete their Achieve 3000 and IXL work early in the week. These are important weekly assignments and skills all students need to complete to the best of their ability. Here is a more specific look at what's going on...
6th Grade Math: Students will continue working on Digits Topic 1: Expressions. They should have all lessons in this topic complete by Friday. There will be test over this information next week.
HW: 60 minutes of IXL (per week), and complete any incomplete Digits lessons
Advanced Math: Students will continue working on Digits Topic 1: Rates and Ratios. All work and lessons in this topic should be completed by Friday. There will be a test over this information next week.
HW: 60 minutes of IXL (per week), and complete any incomplete Digits lessons
Language Arts: This week we will continue working on writing complete sentences, topic sentences, and well-written paragraphs. Students will read Chapter 4 in Brian's Winter, and with a partner they will write a fantastic paragraph. We will also begin working on elements of plot in a story. Students will learn the elements, definitions, and begin applying this knowledge toBrian's Winter.
HW: Complete two Achieve 3000 articles with well-written thought questions, Read 30 minutes each night
PBL Work Time: Students will have busy week during PBL time this week! Final draft narrative essays (most are coming along very well!) will be due at the end of PBL time on Tuesday. They will be turning this in via GoogleDocs. There will also be time for the students to begin working on their Gallery Walk presentations. We'd like to invite you to attend the "Who Am I?" Gallery Walk on Tuesday, September 9. If you'd like to know the specific time your student is presenting, you can see the presentation schedule HERE. Additionally, students will need to attend one of the mandatory workshops on Presentation Skills this week. This will help them prepare for their Gallery Walk. You can review the Project Calendar for more specific due dates.
Lastly, on Friday, we will be taking a short break from PBL time to work with Mrs. Melanie Jeffirs to strengthen our team. Mrs. Jeffirs facilitates the CONNECT program in Plymouth schools; this is an anti-bullying and team-building program meant to help students feel less alone and find ways to address bullying in our schools.
HW: Work on "Who Am I?" Gallery Walk presentation if needed
Other Important Dates and Information:
*Families invited to attend "Who Am I?" Gallery Walk presentations on Tuesday, September 9 (1:15pm - 2:20pm).
*Homework Help Sessions will begin at the Plymouth Public Library on Monday, September 15. (Information attached)
As always, please feel free to email or call with any questions or concerns. Thanks for all you do at home!
Have a wonderful week,
6th Grade PBL Facilitators
