Dear Parents and Guardians,
It's hard to believe we're in the second quarter of school already; the year seems to be flying by! Please look for report cards to come home next week in Red Folders. Also, CONGRATULATIONS (again!) to Mrs. Welch's entire homeroom for completing their Achieve 3000 last week!
Here's a look at what's going on at school this week...
6th Grade Math: Students will be working on Topic 3 (Equations and Inequalities). This will be due next week.
HW: Complete 60 minutes of IXL for the week, Work on Topic 3 lessons
Advanced Math: Students will be working on Topic 3 (Percents). This will be due next week.
HW: Complete 60 minutes of IXL for the week, Work on Topic 3 lessons
Language Arts: This week students will be learning about complex sentences and how to properly use them in their writing. We will also begin reading more nonfiction articles to examine various sides to arguments. This will eventually lead into argumentative writing for second quarter. I've attached an article we will be reading and discussing later this week if you'd like to read along with us.
HW: Read 30 minutes each night, Complete two Achieve 3000 articles at 75% or higher (Assigned article: "Making the Great Lakes Greater")
PBL Work Time: This week students will begin to work on the project portion of their Ecosystems project, dealing with the invasive species garlic mustard weed. I've attached the project rubric, so you can see how the students will be graded on the project. The rest of the project work can be viewed on theProject Calendar. As the week goes on, students will work in their groups to create a Public Service Announcement about garlic mustard weed, and what people can do to help stop it from spreading. There will be guest speakers here today (Monday) on invasive species, and then a mandatory workshop about how to cite credible sources (websites, images, videos) tomorrow (Tuesday). By the end of PBL time on Thursday, groups will need to have a completed script and outline for their PSA. The actual finished video will be due on next Monday at the end of PBL time. Students will more than likely have to work on this outside of class to complete it on time.
HW: Work on PSA script and outline if needed
Other Important Dates and Information:
*After School Study Tables begins today (let us know if you would your student to sign-up for this!)
*1st Quarter Report Cards go home - Week of October 20
*Fall Break - October 23 and 24
