Dear Parents and Guardians,
This week has been pretty jammed packed with work. It is the time of the year in 6th grade when the amount of homework will begin to increase slightly. Homework is almost always work that has been started in class, but needs to be finished at home.
The students had a graphic organizer due today in Language Arts (to brainstorm/plan) for their argumentative essays about their innovations. Any student who had not completed this in class on Wednesday was expected to complete it for homework. While many students completed the graphic organizer to the best of their ability, there were quite a few students who did not meet this requirement. An Agency grade was taken for this assignment, and it has been entered in Echo.
Today, the students were using their graphic organizer to create an outline (on GoogleDocs or written on paper) for their essay. This outline is due tomorrow at the beginning of class. It is very important students have this completed as they will begin their rough draft of the essay via the outline. Again, an Agency grade will be taken on this assignment. Please chat with your student about the importance of completing homework; it will likely continue this year and increase at the junior high.
Lastly, in PBL Work Time, students need to complete two maps and a blueprint of their group's simple machine invention they will eventually create. These three items will all be due tomorrow, by the end of the day. However, students will have shortened work time tomorrow as we have D.A.R.E. graduation at 1:45pm. Some of their work should be done at home tonight. The requirements for the maps can be found on today's Echo agenda, if needed.
Again, we have seen great improvement in many of your students. The year will continually challenge and push your students to be more organized, focused, and dedicated. Please help us make them successful!
Thanks for all that you do. As always, any questions, joys, or concerns are welcomed. Have a great rest of the week!
