Dear Parents and Guardians,
With only five days remaining until Winter Break, the students are going to have a busy week! Please note there are important dates and times listed at the end of the email, so be sure to mark your calendars! Also, in order to make sure all students leave their computers at school over break, computers will stay at school this entire week. However, students will still have the same weekly requirements and be busy working on their final products for PBL. See below for more specifics of what is going on this week.
6th Grade Math: Students will be finishing Unit 10 on Proportions on Digits. There will be a test on Tuesday over this unit. Students will then begin Unit 11 on Rates.
HW: Complete assigned Digits lessons, 60 minutes of IXL
7th Grade Math: Students will begin Unit 4 in Digits over Integers.
HW: Complete assigned Digits lessons, 60 minutes of IXL
Language Arts: This week will be spent reviewing some of the most important skills and concepts we have learned this semester. Students will work in a group to create a review lesson on a certain skill from the first half of the year. The groups will have Monday and Tuesday to prepare and practice their lesson. Each group will teach their lesson on Wednesday and Thursday to the rest of the class. Each lesson will require the groups to include a Do Now, an audio/video component, a teaching/review/active participation component, and some way for the "teachers" to check the others understanding of what was learned. Friday we will play Language Arts Jeopardy to review the concepts.
HW: Complete 2 Achieve 3000 articles and read 30 minutes each night
PBL Work Time: This is the final week for students to complete their Simple Machines Invention Project. Monday and Tuesday student will be preparing for their Invention Fair presentations (Thursday). On Wednesday, students will present to another group for feedback and "I likes" and "I wonders." They will also be completing a group feedback form to indicate how well their group collaborated on this project. Thursday will be our Invention Fair, held in the gym. Parents and family members are invited to attend this presentation (in a Science Fair format). The Invention Fair will be held from 1:20-2:20pm. On Friday, we will be watching a movie to celebrate and relax. We are still in need of parent volunteers to pop popcorn for us on Friday. If you are available to help with this (at 11:30-12:30), please let us know!
